Frequently Asked Questions
-
Initial sessions aim to get to know one another with me learning about you and your goals for our time together. Subsequent sessions focus on navigating your experiences and building relevant tools so you feel empowered to manage life when our time together comes to an end.
-
Typically, individual session run for 50-55 minutes and couples sessions run for 80-85 minutes. However, if you need to finish earlier, just let me know and I will keep an eye on the time. Please note, shorter sessions incur the same fee.
-
Everyone is different with how many sessions feel right for them. We can discuss this in our first meeting. Typically, I would see someone for 3-6 sessions unless more or less are desired. My aim is to provide you support and effective tools that you do not need to see me ongoing. I always encourage people to return to the therapeutic space for ‘maintenance sessions’ to make sure their skills feel up to date and for general wellness check-ins.
-
Absolutely! While I do not provide family therapy, you are more than welcome to have your partner(s), whānau, or friends along for your session. I want you to feel safe in the therapeutic space.
-
New Zealand is very small! If we bump into each other in a community space, I will not approach you first in order to preserve your confidentiality. You are more than welcome to say hi to me though.
-
Unfortunately, I do not recommend us seeing each other if we have an existing relationship or will see each other regularly outside of the therapeutic space.
-
Yes! Maintaining your privacy is vital to me. The content of your sessions and your personal information will not be shared with others without first discussing it with you. There are some instances where confidentially needs to be broken, such as where there are concerns for the safety and wellbeing of yourself or someone else. If this were to arise, we would work together to engage the appropriate supports to look after you and your loved ones.
-
Unfortunately, no. My registration does not allow me to provide support to anyone outside of New Zealand, regardless of nationality. It would be unsafe for me to provide you support while you are in a different country. I would strongly encourage you to seek a local therapist who can provide you with accessible community base supports. When you return to New Zealand, I would be more than happy to see you.
-
For an additional fee, I can provide a formal report after our work together. However, the report does not constitute a psychological assessment or contain my clinical opinion. The content of the report will focus on outlining topics we covered in our sessions and will be reviewed by you before release.
-
Payment for the session is due prior to or on the day of your session.
-
I offer income tested reduced rates so get in touch if you think you might qualify. There are also other options to reduce rates such as through WINZ and insurance providers.
-
Cancellations with less than 24-hours notice will incur a 50% charge and non-attendance will incur the full fee.
-
No, you do not need a referral to see me.
